Our love affair with this noble breed began long before we bought our little hobby farm in the rolling hills of Bethany. However once we started our animal menagerie with the addition of some goats, mini horses, chickens and geese, we knew the time was right to get a couple of guardian Kuvaszok. In addition to guarding our farmland property, they provide us peace of mind. We no longer worry about the kids going outside alone and the late night trips to the barn are less worrisome. Knowing that four keen eyes are watching over us is a reassuring comfort. 

 

It was in 2014 that we bought our two girls, Nanuk and Kuda. They are first generation Canadians out of a sire and dam imported from Hungary. Our breeding goals are to re-establish the true Hungarian type Kuvasz in Canada. Our girls will only be bred to Hungarian stock showing correct type. All our breeding dogs are health screened for hip and elbow dysplasia.

 

Nanuk and Kuda live outside and guard our property and animals. They are happy and healthy girls. We feed them Diamond Naturals Large Breed kibble along with raw meat and bones. They received a varied diet and it shows in their fitness level, strong bones and luscious coats. They are surprisingly low maintenance considering they are white dogs! Their amazing wavy coats shed dirt and are mat free. I give them a weekly 10 minute brushing mostly because they enjoy it so much. In the spring I brush daily and then the shedding is short lived.

 

You will never find a dog more loyal then the Kuvasz. They are independent thinkers which at times can frustrate the best of trainers, but this is overshadowed by their intense devotion to their charges. Their keen instincts and actions are programmed into their DNA from centuries of acting as guardians of man and beast.
